Bowl Chair, 1951 | Lina Bo Bardi
The italian-brazilian architect innovated in the design of furniture by choosing raw materials that refer to brazilian culture, challenging the architecture of the 1940s and the Bowl armchair is an example of this. With a concept that the user is the center of each project, the piece has the shape of a clay bowl (inspired by bowls used by indigenous people caiçaras) where the user can move everywhere. At the same time that she cultivated rustic and naturalistic design, she had an appreciation for industrial materials, such as glass, steel and concrete, in contrast to materials that are very characteristic of Brazil, such as indigenous networks and northeastern leather.
